Always keen to approach a new challenge, my first awards presentation was met with excitement and enthusiasm.
The school was bustling with activity. The Year 11 pupils had just had their Leaver’s Assembly and were outside hugging, wishing each other well, and posing for photos & selfies - clearly showing this is a school built on friendship and caring!
Any nervous feelings soon went away upon being warmly welcomed by the Head Teacher, Mr David Burton. He introduced me to Mrs Collinge, who has been instrumental in the Business Mentoring Project. She was delighted that the school had won the award.
Next I was shown into the assembly hall to get ready for the presentation. I was greeted by the pupils that took part in the project, some of the teaching staff, governors, and parents. They were all very eager to hear what I had to say!
We were also joined by a number of the local business mentors who had given their time during the project to inspire and guide the pupils in choosing a career.
After talking to some of the pupils, it was very apparent that this project had made a positive impact on them. They now have a clearer idea of the professions they wish to enter. It is also very clear to see that this has become a community project and will continue to have a positive impact on the community, local businesses, and pupils.
Well done to Sir John Thursby Community College! You all have done a fantastic job and the award couldn't have gone to a more worthy winner!
