In addition to the breakfast provision, children have a choice to participate in/access a wide range of activities and resources such as: helping with the school garden, participating in sports games. completing homework, reading and arts & crafts.
With the aims of the project to ensure that all their children had access to a healthy and nutritional breakfast at the beginning of each school day, to educate them on the importance of healthy eating, to raise the attendance fo all pupils with a focus on the disadvantaged pupile, to increase attainment and progress for pupils, by helping them start the day having eaten breakfast, so that they can concentrate on their learning and to develop links with the wider community, by raising the profile of the school, the Wake and Shake club has seen a huge impact on the children and the local community, with members of the local church volunteering to help deliver activities to the children and Magic Breakfast being the suppliers of the food and drink for the club.
The number of children that now attend the club has increased, with over 50% of those being disadvantaged pupils.
Since the introduction of the Wake and Shake club the school has gone from strength to strength. All children throughout the school demonstrate a positive attitude towards behaviour for learning, and most importantly children are able to talk with confidence about the importance and impact of healthy eating!
Congratulations to Tania and the Wake and Shake Club on winning The Community Education Awards
