Outstanding Sports Award 2018

"Being Active is Fun!"
Nominated by: Karen Rodgers
Culcheth Community Primary was chosen as the Winner for the Outstanding Sports Award in the Community Education Awards 2018, for a number of reasons, but one of the main reasons was making sport Fun!
Culcheth Community Primary endeavour to make every child in the school active and they do this by fulfilling their school motto ‘Where learning is Fun!’
Their school council decided to assist in designing their own outdoor play area, giving the children input was found to be a huge step in getting them to motivate other children in the school to become more active.
They then created a Sports Diary, which gives all the children an opportunity to become involved in an activity they enjoy and they now have time tables in place to ensure that no-one misses out.
Last year they received Gold status in the School Games award and achieved a PE Quality Mark.
They make lunchtimes, play times and extra-curricular activities accessible for all their children.
They enrolled their school in the ‘100 Mile Challenge’ where the children in Key Stage 2 were all given a pedometer and their miles were recorded weekly. The main aim was to reach a 100 miles in a year and all the children achieved this ahead of schedule.
They invested in a running track around the school to enable the children to run/walk whatever the weather.
Last year Culcheth Community Primary school entered over 50 competition/matches/festivals sport related activities with children from Year 1 to Year 6 involved.
The children that attend Culcheth Community Primary leave the school knowing that there is a sport out there for everyone. With the experience they have given them in their 7 years of primary they hope that their efforts are embedded in their mindset that being active is paramount in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but most importantly that "Being Active is FUN!"
